When looking at a strand of hair with the naked eye, one sees a smooth, whole filament. However, looking through a microscope, the same filament appears segmented, an assembly of different parts and subtler structures.

In a series of workshops held at Montgomery College in 2019, students explored the human connections that forms the basis of human relationships, using raw clay, paper and rope. Participating students were encouraged to think about how larger structures exhibit properties that smaller/simpler component parts do not exhibit individually? At the end of the exhibition the students destroyed the raw ceramic parts of the sculpture, revealing anonymous thoughts written on paper. These thoughts ranged from the mundane, to the funny, to the profound.
