In a workshop at the Hyde Gallery at Grossmont College in 2018, the artist and student participants explored macro and micro ecosystems, from the visual imagery of the microbiome and internal organs, to the human relationships that make up local communities. As part of this collaborative installation students considered the seemingly chaotic functionality of these breathtakingly diverse systems, and created sculptural elements including the woven ceramic structure and raw clay spheres. Within each raw clay sphere is a note with a students hopes and concerns relating to their self defined community. Student collaborators were asked to build from the outside in and inside out, creating microcosms as well as defining their place within larger structures.
